After an early breakfast you will be transferred to Wilson airport for a short domestic flight to Nanyuki, arriving at the base of the legendary Mt. Kenya, you will proceed by charter flight to Meru National park.
Meru was the home of “Elsa” the lioness made famous by Joy and George Adamson. Its an arid park, dotted with gigantic baobab trees, crystal clear palm-fringed springs and streams fed by water from Mt. Kenya and nyambeni mountains. Herds of eland, Beisa oryx, gerenuk, elephant, Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, grant’s gazelle, the elusive lesser kudu and ofcourse the predators, lion ,leopard, cheetah and hyena roam the park. Meru, due to its location has had very few visitors and you can enjoy pristine wilderness practically on your own.
Elsa’s kopje is on Mughwnago Hill with breath taking 360 degree views over the swamp sand plains of the park in front, and the foothills of Mt.Kenya behind. At an altitude of 1,500ft. its warm, but with minimum humidity and very comfortable. Each of the eight rooms is a cottage made of natural materials, blending into the hillside. The rooms are open to a verandah, so you can look out onto the view from your bed. The camp offers unforgettable “bush’ food and even has a swimming pool for cooling off on hot days.
During your two days you will explore the park with professional driver/guides on game drives and on foot if you wish with a range. Overnight- Elsa’s Kopje camp(BLD) or Similar.
Depart by charter to Nanyuki where you will connect with the scheduled flight to the maasai mara. You will arrive in good time for a short game en- route to camp where you will settle in, have lunch, and rest before embarking on your chosen afternoon activity. The Mara savannah supports an enormous variety of plains games and their predators.your driver/guide will help to understand the behavior of the animals as you track them, and you will enjoy being witness to the interaction between them. Again you will plan your days with the camp host.
Your accommodation is in large, comfortable walk-in tents with private hot shower and simple but sanitary toilets attached to the rear of the tents. Once again, this is tenting in the full classic tradition-ice with evening drinks around the fire, enjoying the sounds of the African night.
